The 2015 General Assembly Meeting of the S.S. OSTİM Small Industrial Site Construction Cooperative brought together the OSTİM family. The meeting, which opened with a moment of silence, the National Anthem, and the formation of the presidium, consisted of Zeki Sayın as Chairman, and A. Mithat Ertuğ and Ufuk Bayraktar as members.

Speaking to delegates at the General Assembly held at the OSTİM METEM facilities, Chairman of the Board Orhan Aydın said, “This is a place that has left its mark on the industry of Ankara and Turkey. You cannot solve the problems of societies without production, without providing jobs and livelihoods. As residents of OSTİM, you can be proud of these beneficial works.”

“Our companies are competing with the world”

Aydın, emphasizing that OSTİM was an organization that began with good intentions and a prayer, described the cooperative, founded in 1967, as a subject that should be examined as a success story in Turkey. President Aydın stated, “80% of the large firms located in the 8 Organized Industrial Zones in Ankara started in OSTİM. OSTİM firms should not be seen as simple workshops. The work done in our firms is competitive worldwide. Parts are produced for airplanes and satellites.”

The solution to the problems lies in production.

Aydın stated that the technopark to be established in the region will provide opportunities for companies that can produce technological products. Sharing his view that "You cannot solve the problems of societies without production, without creating jobs and livelihoods," Aydın pointed out that examples that will serve as models for Turkey have emerged from within the Organized Industrial Zone.

Aydın stated: “The good examples set here are being replicated in other parts of Turkey. OSTİM has left its mark on the industry of Ankara and Turkey. As residents of OSTİM, you can be proud of these beneficial works. I thank those who supported our efforts, those who have contributed since the establishment, and I pray to God for mercy for those who have passed away.”

ABOUT THE COOPERATIVE

Believing that a vital condition for the development and growth of the country's industry and small businesses was to create a production environment suitable for competition and production conditions for industrialists, the late Cevat Dündar and the other founders established the S.S. OSTİM Small Industrial Site Construction Cooperative based on this need.

Cevat Dündar, the founding chairman, and his project partners, who envisioned OSTİM as a major center of Turkish industry that would increase the productivity of small industrialists and leverage the strength and synergy of unity, took the first step by purchasing a 3 million square meter area outside the city with great effort and an entrepreneurial spirit.

With unwavering faith and determination, the founders, thanks to their foresight, brought this initiative, which could be considered a dream given the conditions of the time, to the construction phase in 1975 after a 7-year struggle, laying the foundations of today's SME city, OSTİM. From those years onwards, under the leadership of Turan Çiğdem and the Board of Directors, OSTİM rapidly continued its construction, largely completing its building structure in the 1980s. Shareholders moved into their workshops, and the sounds of looms heralded a "Producing Turkey."
