The "1st International Plastics and Rubber Technologies Symposium and Product Exhibition" was organized to bring together scientists and industrialists working in the fields of plastics, rubber, and polymer technologies, to present new data in this field, and to discuss problems.
The opening ceremony of the event, hosted by Gazi University OSTİM Vocational School, was attended by AK Party Ankara Member of Parliament Prof. Dr. Emrullah İşler, MHP Kütahya Member of Parliament Prof. Dr. Alim Işık, OSTİM Board Chairman Orhan Aydın, Gazi University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Türker, Ostim Rubber Technologies Cluster Association Board Chairman Mustafa Korkmaz, Ostim Rubber Technologies Cluster Coordinator Cenk Çınarbaş, and numerous academics and students.
The first speaker at the opening ceremony was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Behçet Gülen, Director of Gazi University OSTİM Vocational School, who stated that being involved in OSTİM as a scientist has been beneficial to them. Gülen expressed that industrialists are very pleased with the students they train according to the needs of the sector.
Gazi University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Türker stated that their aim is to collaborate with various institutions and organizations, primarily industry, in addition to their educational activities. Türker said, "We want to transfer the knowledge and experience of the university to the industry, and the experience of the industry to the university."
“High value-added products are being produced in Ankara”
OSTİM Board Chairman Orhan Aydın, in his speech, pointed out the importance of university-industry collaborations. Stating that OSTİM is present on international platforms, Aydın drew attention to the competencies of the companies and said, “The products made here are sent to many countries around the world.” Reminding that organizations that are world giants in their sectors do business with the businesses in OSTİM, Orhan Aydın said, “We especially need to value the industrialists in Ankara and OSTİM.”
Aydın stated that the value of 1 kilogram of goods exported from Turkey is $1.6, while this figure is $23.5 in Ankara, and added: “Ankara's industry is able to produce products with higher added value compared to other regions. We receive support from universities in this regard. We are trying to implement the global example of university-industry collaboration, which we call clustering, here. We are working together with academics, industrialists, and supporting institutions to increase the competitiveness of sectors.”
Five companies, members of the Ostim Rubber Technologies Cluster Association, participated in the Product Exhibition. The companies had the opportunity to showcase their products to attendees at the stands they had prepared.
