The 2nd National Workshop on Clean Energy Technologies, focusing on SMR Technologies, was held under the auspices of the OSTİM Organized Industrial Zone Directorate. The workshop was organized in collaboration with Gazi University, Gazi University Energy Systems Society, and the Ankara Branch of the Chamber of Electrical Engineers, with OSTİM Technical University and OSTİM Renewable Energy and Environmental Technologies Cluster among its supporters.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, which was attended by representatives from the Academy, the Turkish Armed Forces, and the sector, Orhan Aydın, Chairman of the Board of Directors of OSTİM Organized Industrial Zone, stated that Turkey should develop its own technology in nuclear energy through end-to-end planning. Pointing out the significant potential of SMR (Systemic Reactivation) plants as a clean energy source, Aydın said, “Nearly 50% of Turkey's energy is consumed by Organized Industrial Zones. Organized Industrial Zones can meet their electricity needs with SMR reactors. Organized Industrial Zones can become users of SMR reactors. This can be done in collaboration with the Organized Industrial Zones Association (OSBÜK).”
Abdullah Buğrahan Karaveli, President of the Turkish Energy, Nuclear and Mining Research Institute (TENMAK), also emphasized in his opening speech at the workshop that efforts to introduce SMR technology to Turkey are rapidly continuing.
OSTİM Enerjik Chairman of the Board Yaşar Çelik also drew attention to the need for cooperation between universities, industry and public institutions in the development of SMR technologies.
The workshop covered SMR reactors in all aspects in sessions titled: Advanced Small Modular Reactors, Molten Salt Technologies and Industrial Infrastructure, National R&D in SMR and Molten Salt Reactors, Institutional Structures and Feasibility, Artificial Intelligence in Advanced Nuclear Technologies, Defense, Grid Resilience and Fusion Perspective.
