The "9th R&D and Design Centers and Technology Development Zones Award Ceremony," where the results of the 2021 Performance Index of R&D and Design Centers and Technology Development Zones, organized by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, were announced, was held at Kaya İzmir Thermal Convention.
At the ceremony, where 42 awards were presented across 12 categories, Ostim Technopark Inc. won first place in the "Early Stage Technology Development Zones" category. The award was presented by the Minister of Industry and Technology, Mustafa Varank, to Orhan Aydın, Chairman of the Board of Directors of OSTİM and Ostim Technopark Inc., Prof. Dr. Murat Yülek, Rector of OSTİM Technical University, and Derya Çağlar, General Manager of Ostim Technopark Inc.
Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank said the following in his speech at the ceremony:
"In Türkiye, we can see high technology heavily involved in projects and success stories in artificial intelligence, biotechnology, space, and aviation in over 11 companies across 97 technoparks and 1567 R&D and design centers. Each of our stakeholders here contributes to both themselves and Turkey by working in high technology."
We see R&D and innovation as the key to development and prosperity. We aim to transition Turkey from an importer of technology to a producer of it. We have gained momentum in this area. For this to continue, technoparks play a significant role in the development of technology.
Many success stories have emerged thanks to the support provided in technoparks, and more continue to come. In the new economic model, technology-based companies reaching billions of dollars will play a dominant role. The number of Unicorn companies originating from our country has reached 6. Our goal is to take this even further. I want to emphasize our expectation from the Technopark Managements; they also need to be meticulous about technology entrepreneurship. Now, the future and prosperity, and the direction the world economy is heading, pass through here. Anyone who contributes to building something in this country should know that the Ministry of Industry and Technology is their partner on this journey.”
