Sudan, which is undertaking initiatives to produce and export its basic needs, plans to establish two industrial zones in the city of Port Sudan. In this context, the Governor of the Red Sea State of Sudan, Ali Hamid, the Sudanese Ambassador to Ankara, Dr. Yousif Elkordofani, and Undersecretary Mohamed Ibrahim Mohamed Elbahi visited OSTİM to exchange views on the industrial zones.

Expressing that they feel very close to Turkey, Governor Ali Hamid said, "When we meet our Turkish brothers and sisters, we feel like we are part of a family. Right now, I feel like I'm in Sudan."

Highlighting Sudan's strategic importance, the Governor stated, "If you consider the map of Africa, Sudan is the heart of the world. 70% of world trade passes through this region. As Sudan, we want to benefit from this potential. Sudan has the opportunity for duty-free trade with other African countries. Furthermore, Sevakin Island, which has been discussed in Turkey, is also located in our region."

“Let’s benefit from OSTİM’s experience”

The Sudanese statesman, explaining that they plan to establish two industrial zones in Port Sudan, continued: “We want to benefit from OSTİM’s experience in establishing industrial zones. Port Sudan has a population of one and a half million. It is a city rich in human resources. In the zones to be established here, we can only use Sudanese currency and Turkish Lira. We import many products, including textiles. We want to produce these domestically and export them.”

OSTİM Chairman Orhan Aydın noted that they have been in contact with Sudan for a long time regarding the development of relations. Aydın said, “Sudan holds a special place in our hearts. If you make a request regarding industrial zones, we are ready to gladly share our experiences with you.”

Following their meetings at OSTİM, the Sudanese delegation visited businesses in the region, examining production processes and products firsthand.
