OSTİM Chairman of the Board Orhan Aydın attended the Türkiye-Syria Roundtable Meeting.
The Turkey-Syria Roundtable Meeting was held at the TOBB Twin Towers, hosted by the President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, and attended by the Minister of Trade, Prof. Dr. Ömer Bolat, and the Syrian Minister of Economy and Industry, Nidal eş-Şaar.
Hisarcıklıoğlu, noting that Türkiye has become an industrial country thanks to its Organized Industrial Zone (OSB) model, stated: "We want to transfer this experience to Syria. We are ready to provide all kinds of support, including the necessary legal infrastructure and legislative work, for the establishment of industrial zones in Syria."
Minister of Trade Prof. Dr. Ömer Bolat stated that Syria has the strength to rebuild thanks to the diligence and productivity of its people. Bolat said that Türkiye is ready to make strong contributions to this process of recovery, reconstruction, and production. He emphasized his belief that Turkish firms, with their expertise and experience in sectors ranging from manufacturing and infrastructure to banking and construction, will take the lead in Syria.
Bolat stated that they had signed the Founding Protocol of the Turkey-Syria Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO), adding, "After the JETCO mechanism begins, we will conduct our economic relations not only on the basis of trade, but also in many areas such as investment, production, and energy."
Collaboration will begin with SMEs.
Syrian Minister of Economy and Industry, Nidal al-Shaar, highlighted the strength of relations between Turkey and Syria, stating, "Partnership should be established in everything. This should extend to cultural, social, economic, industrial, and manufacturing areas. Türkiye's experience is a miracle for us."
Nidal al-Shaar stated that they aim to start cooperation with Turkey with SMEs and later consider large investments, adding: “We trust the Turkish economy, businessmen, and the experience of investors. The territory of the Syrian Arab Republic is being prepared for Turkish investors. We hope that Turkey will establish factories and export in Syria. Let's benefit from the experiences and successful examples of organized industrial zones in Turkey. We will come together again. We will strengthen our relations.”
Syrian Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry, Basel Abdul Hannan, pointed to Turkey's experience with organized industrial zones and stated that they were interested in the OSTİM model.
OSTİM Chairman Orhan Aydın stated that OSTİM has signed cooperation protocols with more than 15 countries to share its experiences with the Turkish and Islamic world. Aydın added that they established the Uzbek-Turkish Organized Industrial Zone in Uzbekistan using OSTİM's expertise.
Mayor Aydın stated that they are also ready to cooperate with Syria in the areas of Organized Industrial Zones, Technoparks, and Universities.
