The OSTİM Technical University 2024-2025 Academic Year Opening Ceremony was held with the opening lecture by Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, President of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey's Defence Industry and Member of the OSTİM Technical University Board of Trustees.
The goal is to be a leading country in technology.
OSTİM Technical University Rector Prof. Dr. Murat Yülek emphasized the university's close relationship with industry and its entrepreneurship-focused education model. Yülek stated, "As a third-generation, innovative, and entrepreneurial university, our primary goal is to train qualified young people to enable Türkiye to achieve a leading position in the global arena with the technologies it produces."
Highlighting OSTİM Technical University's achievements in the fields of industry and technology, Yülek stated, "With the projects carried out by our technology transfer office, we came in second in Turkey with 9 awards at the 9th International Invention Fair. We made our mark on TEKNOFEST this year."
Rector Yülek stated that they act with a sense of social responsibility and that the university aims to educate individuals who are not only equipped with academic knowledge but also committed to moral values.
OSTIM for the good of the world
Orhan Aydın, Chairman of the OSTİM Organized Industrial Zone Board of Directors and Chairman of the OSTİM Technical University Board of Trustees, noted that the university has quickly become a brand. Aydın said, “Students from 77 provinces of Türkiye and 83 countries of the world have chosen us. Their families have entrusted their children to us, and we are aware of this great responsibility. I thank everyone who contributed to this success.”
Aydın stated that they decided on the motto "The World Awaits You" at the founding of the university, and that students are being trained as individuals who will improve every place they go with their knowledge and vision. Adding that "Changing the negative course of the world is possible through education, technology, cooperation, and unity," Aydın recalled Alev Atlı's words and conveyed the message, "Turkey for the good of the world, OSTİM and OSTİM Technical University for the good of Türkiye."
Young people are the greatest hope in independent technologies
Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, President of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey's Defence Industry Directorate, delivered the opening lecture for students at OSTİM Technical University's 2024-2025 academic year. During the lecture, Görgün expressed his pleasure at being with the young people who will build the future of Turkey, saying, "I thank my young brothers and sisters and our Rector, Prof. Dr. Murat Yülek, for hosting us. Our country's successes in the defense industry have been made possible through original projects and high-quality education programs. OSTİM Technical University, with its successful projects, is undertaking great responsibilities as an education and research base."
Görgün emphasized that in this period when Turkey is in the process of developing independent technologies, young people are the greatest hope for further advancing the country's vision, stating, "We are obligated to pass on the experiences we have gained on this path to our young brothers and sisters and to do everything we can to help them specialize in their fields. I would like to thank OSTİM Technical University once again for this meeting, which increases our hope for the future, and I wish all our students a successful new academic year."
Görgün, who described the development of the Turkish defense industry from the past to the present and the achievements it has made, also provided information about the technologies that will be part of the future of the defense industry.
Görgün stated that the average age of those working in the defense industry is 34, drawing attention to the opportunities the sector offers to young people and sharing examples of groundbreaking technologies. Advising young people to focus on high-tech production, Görgün emphasized that competencies must be compatible with the work being done for success.
OSTİM Technical University presented the Outstanding Service Award to public institutions and business representatives who create value through their work.
The awards were presented to Dr. Nazmi Zarifi Gürkan, Director General of Accounting, on behalf of the Ministry of Treasury and Finance; to Deputy Minister İsmail İlhan Hatipoğlu, on behalf of the Ministry of Treasury and Finance; to Ahmet Türkoğlu, Chairman and General Manager of Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO), on behalf of TPAO; and to Gürsel Baran, President of the Ankara Chamber of Commerce, on behalf of TPAO.
The Function of Law: To Provide Security, Order, and Peace
At a seminar held at OSTİM Technical University, Prof. Dr. Şükrü Karatepe, Deputy Chairman of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey's Local Government Policies Board, addressed important topics regarding the functioning of the legal system in his presentation on "Law and the Sense of Justice." The seminar, which attracted significant interest from the participants, emphasized that justice is the ultimate goal of law.
In the first part of the seminar, it was stated that the fundamental function of law is to establish trust, order, and peace in society. Professor Dr. Karatepe stated that the ultimate aim of law is justice, adding that justice is one of the complex subjects of philosophy and religion.
Prof. Dr. Karatepe, touching upon the historical and cultural dimensions of justice, explained that in our classical culture, justice was considered the "opposite of oppression." He discussed some definitions of justice, addressing concepts such as "giving everyone their due," "acting impartially and equally," and "defending the righteous, not the powerful." He emphasized that justice can be achieved by doing what conscience dictates and making decisions in accordance with the truth.
The ceremony was attended by the 22nd Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Bülent Arınç, the Deputy Minister of Treasury and Finance of the Republic of Turkey, Dr. İsmail İlhan Hatipoğlu, the President of the Ankara Chamber of Industry, Seyit Ardıç, the President of the Ankara Chamber of Commerce, Gürsel Baran, the Chairman and General Manager of Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO), Ahmet Türkoğlu, the Director General of Accounting at the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, Dr. Nazmi Zarifi Gürkan, and representatives from academia and the business world.
