At a ceremony held in Ankara, the awards for the stars of Organized Industrial Zones were presented by Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank, President of OSBÜK Memiş Kütükcü, and Chairman of the Turkish Grand National Assembly's Committee on Industry, Trade, Energy, Natural Resources, Information and Technology Ziya Altunyaldız. OSTİM Board Chairman Orhan Aydın, OSTİM Vice Chairman Sıtkı Öztuna, and OSTİM Organized Industrial Zone Board Member Behzat Zeydan also attended the ceremony.
As part of the awards, 126 plaques were given to 77 companies and institutions in Organized Industrial Zones (OSBs) that ranked in the top 10 in 12 different categories. The study was based on the companies' work across a wide range of areas, from R&D and exports to employment and production. Awards were also given to the top three OSBs with the most participants in the ranking.
Speaking at the opening of the award ceremony, OSBÜK President Memiş Kütükcü emphasized that Organized Industrial Zones (OSBs) wrote a new chapter in production history in 2021, increasing their gross sales by 75%, exports by 46.5%, employment by 11.7%, and female employment by 13.8% compared to the previous year, and congratulated the award-winning companies.
“Those who want to see success stories should come to our Organized Industrial Zones”
Underlining that the industrialists in the Organized Industrial Zones (OSBs) deserve far more than any award or thanks for their performance and production drive, Kütükcü said, “In this period when production and commercial life are under pressure all over the world, despite rising global inflation, increasing costs, and all other difficulties, our industrialists have persistently produced without giving up, waving our crescent and star flag in every corner of the world, and continue to do so. That is why the industrialists of this country, especially those in the OSBs, are the real heroes of the production front. If anyone wants to see where Turkish industry has come to, no matter which country they are in the world, let them come and see our organized industrial zones. Let them look at the quality of service our OSBs provide to their industrialists. Let them examine the strong production potential, quality, and technological infrastructure of our industrialists on site. Anyone who wants to see the path Turkish industry has taken and the success stories it has written in the last 30 years is welcome to come to our OSBs and see the production firsthand.”
“Emphasis must be placed on R&D for success in advanced technology”
In his speech at the award ceremony, Ziya Altunyaldız, Chairman of the Turkish Grand National Assembly's Industry Commission, stated that the green transformation, necessitated by climate change, has made it imperative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to ensure the sustainability of natural resources. Addressing the industrialists in the Organized Industrial Zones, Altunyaldız urged them to prioritize R&D activities so that Turkey can achieve the same success in advanced technology that it has achieved in medium-high technology.
“Our Organized Industrial Zone structure operates like a flawless machine”
Varank, commenting on the Organized Industrial Zones (OSBs) under the Ministry of Industry and Technology, stated: “The seeds of the OSB system were sown in Bursa in 1960. With increasing support, we have an OSB structure that has spread throughout Turkey and operates efficiently like a flawless machine. While there were 192 OSBs in our country in 2002, 156 new OSBs were established in recent years, and the number has reached 348 today. In 2022, 16 new OSBs were established. The highest number of OSBs since the OSB law was enacted was established in 2022. A record was broken in this area with nearly 2 billion Turkish Lira spent on OSB projects included in the investment program. The number of plots, which was around 30,000 in 40 years before 2002, has now reached 82,000. The number of plots in production has increased fivefold, from 11,000 to 58,000. The number of OSBs in production is 264, and the occupancy rate in the plots is at 90 percent.”
