The OSTİM delegation paid a congratulatory visit to Prof. Dr. İbrahim Kılıçarslan, who recently assumed the position of President of the TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM). President Kılıçarslan stated that the center, with its thousand R&D personnel and infrastructure, serves as the R&D hub of Turkish industry, and extended an invitation to OSTİM and all industrialists: “Please come to us, see our infrastructure, and let’s work together.”
Prof. Dr. İbrahim Kılıçarslan, known for his successful work in the development of industry and SMEs and the dissemination of the idea of domestic production, has been appointed as the new President of TÜBİTAK MAM, a leading institution in the advanced technology world with its research capabilities and capacity, research infrastructure, and world-class managerial and operational processes. A delegation consisting of OSTİM Board Chairman Orhan Aydın, the OSTİM Renewable Energy and Environmental Technologies Cluster (OSTİM Enerjik) Management, and representatives from various companies visited Kılıçarslan to congratulate him on his new position.
“We want to see industrialists here”
During the visit, hosted by Prof. Dr. İbrahim Kılıçaslan, Head of TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center, information was provided about the capabilities and areas of cooperation of TÜBİTAK MAM Institutes, especially the Energy and Materials Institutes.
Prof. Dr. İbrahim Kılıçarslan stated that TÜBİTAK MAM, with its approximately one thousand R&D personnel and infrastructure, serves as the R&D center of Turkish industry, adding, “Our institution is a solution partner for Turkish industry. We stand by this claim and want to see industrialists here more often; we expect them to give us tasks and assignments. Of course, we will share our knowledge, but market conditions and visions that we may not see should also come to us from the industrialists. We must create synergy with the industrialists.”
Kılıçarslan, explaining that the Marmara Research Center is the strongest R&D center established by the state, said: “Our goal is to produce technology; and with this technology, to increase the technological intensity and added value of Turkish industry. Therefore, I say to OSTİM and all industrialists, ‘Please come to us, see our infrastructure, let's work together.’”
Products that are currently dependent on foreign sources should be localized
OSTİM Board Chairman Orhan Aydın pointed out that the resources and capabilities of the center should be combined with all of Turkey's talents to localize the products that the country needs and is currently dependent on foreign sources.
Orhan Aydın, reminding that TÜBİTAK MAM has an important infrastructure, stated, “It is very valuable for us that our esteemed President has also come here. He is coming here from the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology. He is someone who monitors, observes, and directs Turkish industry from a different perspective. I believe he will make a very different contribution here. I wish him success in his duties and continued achievements.”
OSTİM Enerjik Chairman of the Board Yaşar Çelik also shared his views: “We will sit down again later to discuss what kind of work we can do regarding the commercialization of products produced as a result of R&D here. I am sure that many commercialized products that will contribute directly or indirectly to the country will emerge from this meeting.”
During the program, OSTİM companies closely followed the work of TÜBİTAK MAM Institutes on coal-to-fuel production and their capabilities in thermal power plants, and an agreement was reached on transferring this expertise to the industry.
Established in 1972, the center offers unique solutions to public, defense, and private sector institutions and organizations, as well as academic institutions, through its customer-focused approach.
