OSTİM Technical University, which is preparing to offer a different model of university education in Turkey, hosted members of the press. At the meeting, attended by representatives from numerous media outlets, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Orhan Aydın, and the Rector, Prof. Dr. Murat Yülek, provided detailed information about the university's education system.
It will touch lives
OSTİM, a pioneer in Ankara's industrialization, has once again broken new ground by establishing a technical university in the heart of the industrial zone. OSTİM Technical University, the first university in Turkey founded by an Organized Industrial Zone (OSB), is opening its doors to students this year. Orhan Aydın, Chairman of the OSTİM Technical University Board of Trustees and President of OSTİM OSB, stated that they embarked on this journey to train human resources capable of providing solutions to industrial challenges.
Orhan Aydın, providing information about the university's mission, said, "To produce value-added products, we need qualified human resources, quality education, and technology. To achieve this, we want to transform Ankara and Turkey with a technical university."
Aydın explained that they wanted to establish a university, which is the most important missing element of the region and ecosystem, and stated, "We embarked on this journey to make a difference in people's lives, to find solutions to the problems of the industry, and to bring Industry 4.0 to our region and industry."
The university is an asset for Türkiye.
Rector Prof. Dr. Murat Yülek stated that OSTİM is Ankara's first industrial zone. Highlighting the region's more than half a century of industrial and manufacturing experience, Yülek expressed that the establishment of such a university would be a gain for Turkey.
It will train engineers who can produce results.
Noting that technology and industrial production are at the heart of the changes countries are undergoing, Yülek also provided information about the OSTİM Technical University Board of Trustees. Pointing out that the board members come from the real world and are intimately familiar with the needs of the sectors, Yülek emphasized that the university education they will provide will train engineers who are ready for the workforce and capable of producing results.
Yülek, stating that the university stands out with its unique features, continued: “OSTİM Technical University is, to our knowledge, unique in the world for being established in an industrial zone. We explain this with the concept of a new generation or entrepreneurial university. This means that it is positioned at the center of life, outside and somewhat above society. 'University-industry collaboration' is a concept we like, but our difference will be to immerse our students, from their first year, in an environment where a wide range of industrial production, from TUSAŞ to ASELSAN, is located within the OSTİM ecosystem.”
They will graduate with an entrepreneurship report card.
Rector Yülek stated that one of the university's distinguishing features is providing its students with an entrepreneurship report card upon graduation, adding: “Our university will train its students to have an entrepreneurial mindset, regardless of their chosen career. Students will establish start-ups, take three fundamental entrepreneurship courses, and undertake social entrepreneurship projects. Our graduates, whether they start their own company, become civil servants, or work in academia or the private sector, will possess an entrepreneurial spirit. The entrepreneurship report card program has no equivalent anywhere in the world.”
