Our company was established on September 12, 2008, under the name Kobay Deney Hayvanları Laboratuarı Anonim Şirketi (Guinea Experimental Animals Laboratory Inc.).
Our founding member and Chairperson of the Board, Veterinarian A. Begüm Buğdaycı Açıkkol, graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 2007 with a third-place ranking. She is currently pursuing a doctorate as a special student in Microbiology at the same university.
With a project aimed at meeting the need for healthy experimental animals in our country, Bilkent University, Cyberpark, GYİAD, Akbank, and Lab x participated in a business idea competition and won first prize among 750 projects. The business idea, based on the principle of "healthy production leads to healthy experimental animals, healthy experimental animals lead to healthy experiments, and healthy experiments lead to healthy results," was brought to life thanks to the investment provided by the business people who supported it.
Our laboratory received its operating license from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs on March 6, 2009, becoming the first and only experimental animal production laboratory in Türkiye. Starting with the import of four different species from international reference laboratories, our laboratory now produces ten different species of experimental animals, including SPF and conventional experimental animals.
The Guinea Pig Laboratory has doubled its investments and focused on research and development activities with the support of TÜBİTAK's SME R&D programs. An R&D department has been established within the laboratory, and permission has been obtained to establish a "Local Ethics Committee," the first of its kind in Türkiye, affiliated with the Central Ethics Committee, to enable researchers to conduct their studies. Thus, the Guinea Pig Laboratory Local Ethics Committee has been established. This allows researchers from other countries to work in our R&D laboratory, in addition to those involved in our company's research and development projects. This is of great importance for ongoing and future research and development activities in our country.
Through its Local Ethics Committee, the Laboratory of Experimental Animals also contributes to the sector in terms of education with its "Animal Use Certification Training Programs" and "Surgical Training Programs".
