Founded in 1976, Limak Construction specializes in all infrastructure and superstructure projects, including airports, ports, highways, dams, hydroelectric power plants, treatment plants, factories, industrial facilities, food processing plants, pipelines, mixed-use complexes, and hotel construction. Today, it is among the top 250 international construction companies listed in the Engineering News-Record (ENR), alongside leading construction companies worldwide. Combining its technical expertise and years of experience with quality, speed, high technology, creativity, and a sense of social responsibility, the company has successfully completed many large, strategically important projects, some of which are EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) models, ahead of schedule.
Limak Construction has completed significant international airport projects in the aviation sector to date. In 2014, together with its partners, it won the tender and signed the contract for the Istanbul Airport Project, one of the largest infrastructure investments in Turkey and the world, completing the first phase of construction on October 29, 2018. It also completed the new terminal building and extensions of Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, designed with an environmentally friendly approach and covering a total of 500,000 square meters of enclosed space, in a record time of 18 months, including the design and construction process, in 2009, exceeding international standards. This project has won numerous awards, including being selected as one of the world's safest buildings. In 2013, it constructed Pristina Adem Jashari International Airport, with a capacity of 5 million passengers, which is today the most technological, modern, and environmentally friendly airport in the Balkans. Finally, in 2016, it completed the Cairo International Airport Terminal 2 Project in Egypt, financed by the World Bank. In 2016, together with its partner, Limak Construction undertook the Blaise-Diagne International Airport Project in Dakar, the capital of Senegal, and completed its construction in 2017. In 2019, Limak Construction, together with Marashstroy, completed the Domestic Terminal of Khabarovsk Airport in the Russian Federation, handing it over to the state on August 20, 2019, and the airport was opened for full capacity use on October 14, 2019.
Limak Construction continues the construction of the Kuwait International Airport Terminal II Project, one of the world's most prestigious projects and of great importance to Kuwait, with the contract value being the largest ever awarded to a Turkish contracting firm, and the agreement signed in 2016. Additionally, the construction of the Chelyabinsk International Domestic Terminal, undertaken jointly with Marashtroy in the Russian Federation, continued in 2019.
Other projects undertaken abroad include a mixed-use superstructure project in the city center of Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, consisting of a shopping mall, hotel, and residential blocks covering an area of approximately 300,000 square meters; and the continuation of the construction of the Moglice hydroelectric power plant with a capacity of approximately 250 MW for Statkraft in Albania. In Kuwait, the project for the construction and maintenance of public buildings and infrastructure works in the Al-Mutlaa District was also undertaken.
Limak Construction has successfully completed numerous hydroelectric power plant (HPP) projects in the energy sector to date. These include the Alkumru Dam and HPP, one of the largest HPP projects undertaken by the private sector in Turkey, with an installed capacity of 280 MW and an average annual production capacity of nearly 1 billion kWh. Construction is also progressing rapidly on the Yusufeli Dam and HPP in Artvin, the world's third highest double-curved concrete arch dam, and the Çetin Dam and HPP in Siirt, another investment of the group.
Within Turkey, the Northern Marmara Highway Section 6, the Şırnak-Pervari and Artvin-Erzurum roads are underway, while in Pakistan, 4 highway projects are continuing.
In 2019, the Northern Marmara Highway Section 4 and the Ankara Drinking Water Project Phase II were completed. Construction continues on the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge and Malkara-Çanakkale Highway Project, one of the most important projects for our country, the tender for which was won by the joint venture group in which the company is involved. The 1915 Çanakkale Bridge, which will be the world's longest suspension bridge with a span of 2023 meters between its piers, is targeted to be completed and opened in 2023, the 100th anniversary of the Republic.
In 2019, the company will continue to work towards a sustainable future and contribute to the economy by undertaking large-scale energy, infrastructure, and superstructure construction projects both domestically and internationally, while maintaining the highest levels of safety, quality, and environmental standards.
