What is Barcode?

Barcodes are simple symbols of coding information that can be read by computers and similar devices. In other words; It is a combination of many perpendicular lines consisting of alphanumeric characters and numbers. Reflections from the widths of lines and gaps in the barcode and their variations are read by a Barcode reader using a sensitive laser light. The reader converts the reflected light into information and transfers this information to a computer.

A barcode is like a key to access information from information files or databases. It provides automatic and error-free transfer of data to another medium. Since it provides data entry in automatic data collection processes, it enables the information to be read by computer and reader devices to another environment with code.

The first three digits from the left; It gives the country code or symbol code of each country. (Turkey 869) The country code is valid all over the world, the second part is 4 digits; gives the company code and this code is taken from TOBB (The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey). The 5-digit number following the company code; is the product code of the product. The last 4 digits are the control number of the product. This code prevents the previous codes from being read incorrectly. It is calculated with the formula and gives the control number.

The barcode, which is the product of technological development, is of great importance in terms of the benefits it provides. It makes data entry and data tracking quickly, while reducing the error rate in large shopping malls or large business areas. Barcode increases efficiency, quality, inspection and customer satisfaction.
Trade is developing rapidly all over the world. Due to the redundancy and diversity of the products or services, the products or services are distinguished by a standard system that is valid both in the country and in the world.

Barcode Registration Procedure

It is necessary to obtain the EAN code to obtain a barcode number. The EAN code is taken by the National Goods Numbering Centers affiliated to TOBB (Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges) in Turkey. Those who want to benefit from the EAN-UCC system (barcode system) must apply to MMNM and become a member of MMNM. Thus, EAN-UCC (barcode) company number is obtained from MMNM. This number is a company-specific number and other people or companies other than that company cannot use that number.

It is necessary to complete the necessary documents for Barcode Registration and to apply to TOBB. Companies receive barcode numbers depending on the variety of their products. Annual turnover is determined according to product types.

The barcode application is examined within 10 days and the barcode registration document is delivered to the applicant. TOBB notifies the applicant of the amount of the annual fee by mail. The annual fee determined to TOBB is paid in September of the years following the barcode application.

Documents Required for Application

1- Filling out the power of attorney that does not require notary approval;
2-You must fill in the attached undertaking and have it notarized;
3-A certificate of activity from the affiliated chamber (Chamber of Commerce, Chamber of Industry, Chamber of Craftsmen, etc.) stating that it is still in operation (Corporate Registry Copy)
4- Income statement for the last year that you will receive from your accountant with wet stamp approved
a - Establishment Trade Registry Gazette for newly established companies
b - For companies with no income, blank income statement stating that they have no income
5-Trade Registry Gazette
6-Future receipt to be deposited into TOBB Official Accounts according to the gross sales in the Income Statement
