Measurement Principle

Doppler ultrasonic flow meter is designed to measure the liquid volumetric flow in the closed channel, the pipeline should be filled with liquid, a certain amount of air bubbles or suspended solids in the liquid.

Transducers are available in on-clamp or hot-hit probe types, so the user does not need to shut off the pipe flow when you install clamp-on transducers.

The flowmeter works by transmitting an ultrasonic sound to its transmitting transducer, the sound will be reflected by the useful sonic reflector suspended in the liquid and recorded by the receiving transducer. If sonic reflectors are moving within the sound transmission path, the sound waves will be reflected at a frequency shifted from the transmitted frequency (Doppler frequency). The frequency shift will directly depend on the velocity of the moving particle or bubble. This shift in frequency is interpreted by the tool and converted to various user defined units of measurement.

There must be some particles large enough to cause longitudinal reflection - particles larger than 100 microns.
