Cylinder Compression Test

Cylinder Compression Test

Cylinder compression test is the measurement of the compression, which occurs as a result of compression time in each cylinder of the engine, with a special measuring device. There are two test types, dry and wet. The most widely applied of these is the dry test.

Importance of Cylinder Compression Test in Compression Leakage

An Ankara cylinder compression test must be performed before a compression leak occurs in an engine. If the test is not performed, there may be many reasons for the compression leak. These; It can be caused by piston rings or cylinder liner wear, valves, burnt cylinder head gasket, cracked cylinder block or cylinder head.

There are some things that need to be known in order to understand the compression leak. Compression leakage gives various symptoms. Among these symptoms; Decreased engine power, increased fuel consumption, starting to burn oil, gray and blue smoke coming from the exhaust are among the most common ones. When you are faced with such a situation, if a malfunction has occurred in the province of Ankara and its surrounding districts, you should immediately apply to a company specialized in the field of Ankara cylinder compression test and have the test containing this technical information.

Performing the Cylinder Compression Test

In the dry compression test, first of all, the state of the battery charge is checked. The battery charge must be in good condition. The engine should not be too cold or too hot, normal operating temperature will be suitable for this. If there is any dust or dirt around the spark plugs, they should be cleaned immediately. Engine ignition and fuel injection should be prevented. All spark plugs must be removed with the spark plug socket. During the test, the maximum amount of pressure gauge on the test device's monometer is recorded. There is a compression leak in the cylinders with a low pressure reading of 20-25%.

In some engines, the pressure difference between the cylinders should not exceed 1.5 bar. In the dry compression test results, if the pressure values measured for all cylinders are equal or very close to each other, the engine is sound and there is no compression leakage. In this case, there is no need for a wet test.

If it is determined that there is a compression leak in one or more cylinders as a result of the dry compression test, it will be appropriate to have the wet compression test done because of this detection. For these tests, companies that are expert, reliable, using quality equipment and devices should be preferred.
