Importance of Cylinder Compression Test in Compression Leakage

These; It can be caused by piston rings or cylinder liner wear, valves, burnt cylinder head gasket, cracked cylinder block or cylinder head.

Performing the Cylinder Compression Test

In the dry compression test, first of all, the state of the battery charge is checked. The battery charge must be in good condition. Engine ignition and fuel injection should be prevented. All spark plugs must be removed with the spark plug socket. During the test, the maximum amount of pressure gauge on the test device's monometer is recorded. There is a compression leak in the cylinders with a low pressure reading of 20-25%.

In some engines, the pressure difference between the cylinders should not exceed 1.5 bar. In the dry compression test results, if the pressure values measured for all cylinders are equal or very close to each other, the engine is sound and there is no compression leakage. In this case, there is no need for a wet test.

If it is determined that there is a compression leak in one or more cylinders as a result of the dry compression test, it will be appropriate to have the wet compression test done because of this detection.
