Material Requirements Planning

Material Requirements Planning determines the priorities of the orders and the necessary materials with the working method suitable for your business. It determines the necessary stages in the planning for the timely supply and production of the material and tries to minimize the delays that may occur in the delivery date.

Material requirements planning is actually a new name given to a rather old concept. However, the importance of this old concept today has been realized thanks to the important developments in information-processing.

Material requirement planning is an inventory management application that prepares purchasing and manufacturing orders by converting the main production program prepared for the final product to the required part and material program.

Today's economic conditions force managers to be more careful, especially in auditing. Due to reasons such as frequently changing interest rates, lack of materials, increased inventory carrying costs, there has been a need for faster adaptation to changes and tighter control. At this point, material requirement planning is a management, scheduling and control technique used to minimize investments, increase production and efficiency, and improve the service offered to the buyer.

Material requirement planning (MRP) has been developed as a method used for stock management in businesses. As it evolved, its importance shifted to programming. Today, MRP has been expanded as Production Resource Planning (MRP II), where an effective resource planning can be made in manufacturing enterprises. The Manufacturing Resource Planning System is a more complex system that combines production, marketing, engineering and finance information into a total organizational plan.

Material requirement planning methods, which are primarily applied for simple products and based on the card system, have become easily usable for complex products consisting of many parts. Because, in an enterprise where an assembly product containing tens of thousands of parts is manufactured, it has become possible to reduce the calculation load of a requirement planning that may last for days to minutes within automation.

MRP systems, required for production;
There is a single and common procedure consisting of programming the machine and labor hours, the amount of energy that will be needed, the amount of materials and parts on a chart. This programming is done by estimating the product, including inspection and quality control requirements, back to the beginning, back from the dispatch and delivery date. This practice virtually eliminates the need to maintain inventory, as it ensures that every product or its constituent parts are manufactured or procured just before they are needed. Thus, in-process stocks are significantly reduced.
