Travel Insurance

What is Travel Insurance?

Travel insurance is a type of insurance that insures risks such as illness, accident and loss of luggage that may be encountered during both domestic and international travels. Overseas travel insurance is also known as “visa insurance”, especially since it is a prerequisite for European countries visa procedures (Schengen visa).

When purchasing travel insurance, it is very important to pay attention to the start and end dates of your policy, the number of people to travel, and the compliance of the country you will visit with visa requirements, if any.

Travel insurance can be on different days and times. Minimum one week, maximum 1 year. The remuneration system also changes accordingly.

What are Travel Insurance Coverages?

A standard travel insurance has 30.000 Euro insurance coverage. In case of damages that may occur during your travel, the amount to be paid to you and the services you will receive vary according to the guarantees you will determine. Insurance coverage also differs according to insurance companies and product features. For this reason, a policy with the right insurance coverage is necessary and important for your comfort during your trip.

Overseas travel insurance is valid between the periods that start when you leave the country and pass through the customs of the country where you got your visa, and then end when you enter Turkey.

Travel insurance coverages are basically:

  1. Accidental death coverage,
  2. Permanent disability as a result of an accident,
  3. Medical treatment expenses in case of illness or injury during travel abroad,
  4. In case of illness or injury during travel, transportation to an appropriate medical center,

  8. Costs of returning home due to a damage that may occur in the home of the insured while traveling,
  9. Emergency return expenses due to the death of a close family member during the trip,
  10. In case of death during the journey, the organization and expenses of the transfer of the deceased to the country and the return of the accompanying persons,
  11. The expenses of sending urgent messages regarding all the cases subject to the guarantee,
  12. If lost luggage is found during travel, the costs of sending the insured home or the intended destination for travel,
  13. Compensation for delayed baggage on scheduled flights

What Should Be Considered While Making Travel Insurance?

Do you know enough about the travel insurance that you have compulsory for many countries when you go abroad? Here are the details to consider when purchasing travel insurance:

The general terms of travel insurance are determined by the state. The terms and types of travel insurance are therefore the same.

Travel insurance has two options for coverage. In the first option, you get a total coverage of 100 days, but this coverage is limited to 60 days per trip. In the second option, there is no total time limit, but there is a limit of 90 days per trip. At the end of these periods, you must enter the country for the validity of your travel insurance.

Handwritten policies are not accepted in some consulates.

When you need to receive health care under travel insurance abroad, you must notify your insurance company within 24 hours. Otherwise, your payment may be declined.

If you have a private health insurance policy that is also valid abroad, you can try to get your policy approved after you have it translated into English.

There is some difference between the deductible travel insurance and the non-exempt travel insurance premium, the deductible insurance is cheaper. However, when you take out deductible insurance, the insurance company is exempt from paying for losses below a certain amount.
