Sliding shafts are used to transmit motion over long distances up to 3-4 meters. There is a splined gear at the end of the shaft. Movement transmission is provided by switching to another internal gear such as the Evolvent splined shaft. Sliding shafts are used in the transmission of motion from the gearbox to the differential in land vehicles.
