Definition:

KALDESTRIP A900 is an asphalt additive that increases peel strength. It is an additive used in hot and cold mixed asphalts, surface coating and asphalt emulsion production, to reduce the effects of moisture on the aggregate and the effects of external water, and to extend the life of the coating by strengthening the bond between aggregate and bitumen.

Benefits of Using DOP

The quality of the bitumen coating is directly proportional to the quality of the adhesion between the aggregate and the bitumen. If the bitumen does not adhere well to the aggregate, it will peel off from the aggregate surface, thus causing deterioration in the coating.

The adhesion between the bitumen aggregate becomes even more prominent when the coating is exposed to water. If the water cannot be completely evaporated from the aggregate during the preparation of the hot mix, the bond between the aggregate and the bitumen is greatly weakened, and then when the asphalt pavement is exposed to water, the bonds between the aggregate and bitumen break and peeling begins. After that, the coating will deteriorate completely or partially, as a result, the coating will not be long-lasting.

In order to prevent peeling, KALDESTRIP A900, an additive that strengthens the bond between the bitumen aggregate and prevents peeling, is added to the bitumen in a small amount.

Although this rate varies according to the penetration of bitumen, the granulometric curve of the aggregate, and the type of aggregate, it is between 1 and 3 per thousand of the bitumen amount.
