INDUCTION STEELS

Inductıon Steels

Induction hardening is used to obtain properties such as suitable core properties and high hardness depth that cannot be obtained by cementation. For example, induction hardening of parts requiring wear resistance of shafts that cannot be given much hardness due to high torque operation can be given as an example.

Although all tempered steels are induction hardenable, induction hardenable steels containing 0.30-0.70% carbon have better structural properties. Steels that can be hardened by induction can get hardness between 50-60 HRC and the hardness transition between the surface and the core region is better than the tempered steels. The relatively high manganese content of tempered steels increases the risk of crack formation during induction hardening. For this reason, the amount of manganese in induction hardenable steels is reduced. While the manganese ratio of SAE 1050 material is between 0.60-0.90%, this ratio is 0.40-0.70% in Cf 53 material. In addition, the amount of sulfur and phosphorus is lower in these steels.
